Putting Boots Where Your Mouth Is

A voluntaryist solution to the shortage in manpower for the conflict in Ukraine.

Today President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington D.C. to lobby for more aid to Ukraine. Turns out that the $111 𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯 in aid extorted thus far from us taxpayers has been insufficient. Congress and President Biden were told that were more aid not to be approved, Ukraine may resort to conscripting older people since it has run out of younger citizens for the front lines.

Of course, this time around Zelenskyy is getting more cold shoulder than hot cash since the USA's attention is focused -- for the better or worse -- on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the porous southern border, such that more aid to Ukraine would be extremely impolitic.

Fortunately there's a solution for Zelenskyy so that his long trip to Washington DC need not be fruitless. Though Ukraine has become so desperate for bullet-blocking bodies that it has imposed martial law to prevent citizens between the ages of 18-60 from leaving the country, here the USA teems with supporters for his cause. By and large, millions of Americans were only recently lobbying for or desirous of deployment of U.S. troops to Ukraine. Now in that country's dire need, they should put boots where their mouth is and brave the hazards which they wanted other people to endure on their behalf.

Every neighbor who posted a Ukrainian flag yard sign should receive a draft "invitation" to report to the nearest airport for immediate deployment to Ukraine. Surely Etsy has those addresses on file from the sale of all those yard signs. Likewise any user of social media who posted a Ukrainian flag on the profile. Now is their chance to volunteer true solidarity instead of volunteering strangers' sons and daughters to a foreign meat grinder.
